Me Finding I: Is Ignorance Bliss?

Thought: not knowing what you want, is it better than knowing while aware you can’t get it?

In my opinion (from current experience), it is NOT. Whatever the reason, nothing can stand in your way of achieving something if you put your mind to it. Whether it is financial problems or family pressure, it comes down to how much you’re willing to sacrifice to get what you want. Of course, without sacrificing yourself and your beliefs (when there’s a will, there’s a way. And when that way is unethical, there is always another way if you look harder). There is always a choice. The point is, you do have a goal, a direction and know what you’re working (living) towards.

NOT KNOWING what you want, you do not have a say in that. You are heading in no particular direction, roaming and in pursuit of something murky that you don’t even know yet. Yes, it is an adventure but over time (not getting any younger with each passing second)… does it not get frustrating to not know what is next or even truly accomplish something? All you can do is keep trying to figure it out… or live through life like you’re missing one of your five senses… that incomplete feeling of not living to your fullest potential, not striving towards what you’re meant to fulfill – the purpose of your existence… It crumbles one self-esteem when you feel lost and uncertain of your own self.

“As through your window I stared out, And saw someday we’ll be too old.”

It is like I’m sleepdriving through life, pondering on my life and choices at the night, only to go through the days numb and aimlessly… well aware I am wasting my youth away…

So, are you one of the lucky people happily doing what you’re passionate about every day? Or have you chosen to be ignorant to your wants by just getting by each day to attain your human needs? If not, are you still figuring out your passion? Or have you just cower and/or given up in fear?

Is there such a thing – blissful ignorance? Comment and share your thoughts and experiences!

*P/S: Yes! I’ve decided upon Me Finding I. I think it still makes some sense even if you get the entire meaning to it, it still ultimately implies finding oneself, yes?

Wake me up,
Sum.

  1. I work with loads of people who are passionate about their everyday jobs (a very specific sports industry). I’m very pleased with my job but it’s not my passion. But it allows me the freedom to do soooooooo many things I am passionate about. It was where I needed to be for the past 14 years. It has allowed me to fruitfully and peacefully find my passion – it has allowed me to grow into the person I needed to grow into before I could follow my passion. I guess I’m trying to say you can’t force where you’re going. Sometimes you have to sit back and enjoy the ride even if its not in the car you want to ride in. Make the most of it, learn from it, grow from it.
Gosh I don’t know if that made sense – it’s late lol.

    • Ahaha, It kinda does makes sense to me, yes. My parents have been telling me the same thing, that I can keep trying but I can’t force or be too demanding. They gave me the same advice – attain a stable life first (financially), and figure out my passion on the side. I’ve just got to learn to live in the present and stop worrying about a distant future I suppose! And perhaps somethings happen for a reason… Perhaps this is just going to make me all the more stronger and able to persevere.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Hoping for a better tomorrow, of course while still living in today. =)

  2. I’m so blessed-I don’t fully understand or know when it happened. But I have lived my life to the fullest, obtained what I wanted and more. I never really strove to be a grandma or travel around the country on a motorcycle or in a motorhome. But all that is icing on my cake that I get to savor!
I do know I gave my life to my Lord, Jesus….maybe that helped?
In contrast, my mom just exists….she’s always gone along to get along. Maybe that helped me strive a bit more…..

    • It’s easy to think that life is unfair when you see people just be able to go with the flow. But I guess I need to take things a little lighter… My parents have been a great support for me throughout this all too, they think I should try to focus less on a distant future, and live in the moment. It is easier said than done, but I’m trying to my best! Thanks for sharing your experience 😉
